THE 5AM CLUB ??
My Humble Pranams to All...!! This
new post is all about another motivating content which is the summary of a book
that I read recently and found the content inspiring and the book is “The 5AM
club” by ‘Robin Sharma’. In the beginning
of this book Robin Sharma mentions that many of us die at age of thirty itself and
we just keep repeating our daily routine and call it a life and then just our bodies
live in this world and gets buried at the age of eighty. That is, he mentions
that we tend to lose focus in life and we miss to do things that we enjoy in
life and even before we reach our full potential, our lives end. Why are we not
able to concentrate on big things in life or on things that matters to us the
most? It’s mainly because of the distractions we have in today’s world like
smart phone, social media etc., we tend to lose our focus and so we miss things
like reading a blog or scanning through our favorite book or listening to podcast
and start following a same kind of pattern in life like getting up, checking on
phone, working for office, checking phone again in middle and then we eat and then
sleep at night and we don’t have time to concentrate on new things. In this
book he briefs on how can one utilise time effectively and he refers people who
wake up at 5AM in the morning or even before that as the 5AM club and how are
those people able to be successful in life? We all have the same 24 hours in life and
the first 2 hours immediately after we wake up is termed as ‘Victory hour’ and
based on how effectively one uses this Victory hour determines one’s success in
life. Let’s discuss in brief the key points mentioned by the renowned writer in
this book. 1) Flow : Some people prefer
to be a night owl rather than being an early bird but Robin emphasizes that
being an early riser is scientifically proven to be more successful as in the early
morning people tend to go with flow as when we do the most important things or
the things we love with flow without even realizing the flow of time as mostly in the mornings
a silence prevails while everyone sleeps and the flow of doing the things we love
will not get disturbed but as the time goes by, in the afternoon or by evening the
things that had prevailed through the day will get struck in our minds and it
will cause tension and disturb the flow of work. 2) Capitalizing work: We are
all same kind of people and we have same 24 hours in day and mostly all even
possess the same talent too but how do we get differentiated from the rest is
how effectively we use the first two hours in our day capitalizes our efficacy
in life. 3) Day Stacking: Most of us will
have that one-day in which we kind of feel that we have been over productive
today. Robin insists that instead of having that anyone over productive day its
better to use early mornings to do small things regularly so this way it will bring immense
success. 4) 20/20/20 Principle: First one hour in morning that is 5am to 6am he
asks to split this in 3 phases: (i) 5:00 am to 5:20 am, (ii) 5:20am to 5:40 am
and (iii) 5:40am to 6am and in this First 20 minutes he asks to exercise or move around and do things to prioritize
on health and second 20 mins he advises to reflect that is to connect
to our inner selves and do meditation or to do the plan for the day and third 20
mins we must spend our time to grow that is we must think on what new thing are
we learning today to improve ourselves it can either be personal or related to any professional growth.
5) Habit Installation Protocol (66 days): To cultivate any new habit one has to
go through this phase 1) Destruction phase (22 days): We must identify our
habits and kill an old habit like maybe we might spend our night seeing phone or
playing game and when we waste time on this, we tend to lose our focus. We need to prioritize
on things that contribute to one’s growth specifically that may be like working on things to avoid using social media after
8pm in night. 2) Installation phase (22 days): Build a new habit may be like
waking up early in morning and concentrate on things that can motivate you to
achieve this. 3) Integration phase (22 days): Make it a lifestyle and make this
as your reality in your life and any new habits will minimum take 66 days to own
it a part and parcel of your lifestyle. This entire essence can be summed up in
this quote of the profound writer, Robin Sharma “Take excellent care of the
front end of your day and the rest of the day will pretty much take care of
itself”
